Rex Heuermann, an architect based out of Midtown in New York City, is under investigation for three murders that have rocked the nation. Allegedly linked with Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy and Amber Costello who all died at Gilgo Beach – Heuermann is facing six counts of first-degree murder and three of second-degree murder for these deaths.
Heuermann ran a company called RH Consultants and Associates, situated just outside the building where his alleged victims were discovered. Interestingly, Heuermann left a pizza box in the trash, which later became a critical piece of evidence in the murder investigation.
The Heuermann Siblings
Heuermann’s backstory also hints at a pattern of violence, starting with his younger brother, Craig Heuermann. Craig was once convicted of killing a New York cop, Capt. Winnion Buskey, in a tragic car crash in 1988.Craig was only 22 when this incident took place and was reported under the influence of cocaine during its course. He ultimately pled guilty to several charges.
The two brothers, now both accused of heinous crimes, grew up on Long Island and attended Berner High School together.
The Heuermann Family and Ethnicity
Theodore and Dolores Heuermann are the parents of Rex and Craig Heuermann. Theodore, an aerospace engineer and accomplished cabinet maker, passed away in 1975, when Rex was only 11 years old. Dolores, their mother, is still living at age 93 and Rex purchased her home on 1st Avenue from his mother for $170,000 in 1994.
Although there is limited information about the Heuermanns, Rex once shared that his father taught him the art of cabinet-making. He also mentioned his father’s influence on him to rely on a hammer whenever something needed to be persuaded.
A Sinister Twist
Rex Heuermann’s criminal accusations stand in stark contrast to his former public persona. A year before his arrest, he participated in an interview with YouTuber Antoine Amira from “Bonjour Realty,” where he portrayed himself as someone who understood people. Amira even praised him for his attention to detail, a trait that might have proved detrimental as investigators were able to pin him as the alleged murderer.
