Insider Gaming’s report about Dragon Age Dreadwolf has been leaked by a user of Reddit. He posted gameplay footage and images from the game’s Alpha.
The original files were deleted but reuploads have been made. Below are some images and combat footage from Dragon Age Dreadwolf.
According to the poster, the footage was uploaded in response to our initial report. Insider Gaming confirms that the footage and images are authentic. They likely came from a restricted playtest that occurred in the past few weeks.
The footage was believed to have been recorded internally and then reviewed by Bioware developers.
The original post reads:
“The recent article by Tom Henderson prompted my to make this post rather than reply to every reply to that thread. I’ll simply describe what I saw overall here. It was shocking to me that there was no gameplay reveal at TGA. I was certain we would get something given the time this video was shared.
Background: A kind playtester shared their recorded gameplay for DA4 at an early Alpha stage. I was able to see what they had recorded before they were moved onto another project. The video will not be shared unless the person in question asks me to. It will remain private until they give me permission. I don’t want anyone to be in trouble so they must let me know that it is okay.
Okay, now let’s see what’s in the video. It takes about 20 minutes to play one segment/dungeon. The entirety of the gameplay takes place in the Gray Warden Fortress HQ of Weisshaupt. This is what the location text actually says. The gameplay is still in alpha, so it doesn’t have a lot more detail. There are also missing textures for many elements. The skybox is dark, and it makes it appear that the entire fortress is underground. However, it’s modeled and textured. The skybox may contain a huge world event similar to the Breach.
The player character is an Elvish Knight Class (the character screen actually states they are a midlevel Grey Warden). They have a sword, and a shield. Two party members are also available: a knight dude and an elfin rogue. Both models may be placeholders, and they will not look the same in the final game. Darkspawn are attacking Weisshaupt at the moment, and there are roots everywhere along with Red Lyrium popping up all over. The darkspawn are also infused with Red Lyrium, and some of them have Red Lyrium attacks. Some have even got red eyes. You must fight the Darkspawn to reach the library. However, there is a large ass dragon from the top that you need to avoid. It is Dragon Age, as you all know. The dragon can create occasional traversal and environmental hazards. Once you have reached the library, close all gates and come face-to-face with the dragon, it ends. The player is then instructed to chain the dragon, but the game ends before they have completed that. The audio is missing and subtitles are not available. They are often glitched or frozen and you cannot tell what people are saying during combat scenes.
So that’s the general overview and setup. Here are the juicy details of gameplay:
- Combat happens in real-time, and is very similar to a hack & slash. According to me, the God of War (2018) was the guiding point. It shows.
- Each player has their standard combo attack, then their abilities and finally a special bar that generates special moves. It’s hard to understand how this compares to FF15’s wheel. It’s a standard Dragon Age ability wheel.
- It was not possible to exercise party control. It is safe to assume that you won’t be able directly to control your party members during the game. However, you will likely be able tell them how to perform certain abilities. However, that ability was kept secret in the Alpha.
- You noticed the most obvious change in animation quality. It’s not really that significant for AAA titles. We’ve never seen such high quality animation in any BioWare title. Although I haven’t played it yet, I can tell that it feels great to be able to control your character. It’s fluid, responsive and doesn’t have any stiff animations.
- Also, jumping has been preserved. If you loved jumping in DAI, rejoice!
- The character was a sword-and-shield dude and was able parry enemy attacks and counter them. Their abilities are difficult to determine as they only had two hotkeys and a special. One appears to be a drop kick, the other is a charged blade attack. The special attack is not clear to me.
- Although the UI is similar in design to DAI, it is Alpha. UI is the final thing that is completed in any game. A character has a slot for a helmet, a slot for a primary weapon, a shield, and a slot for a secondary weapon. slot. Accessories: One amulet slot and one belt slot. Two ring slots.
- Oh, and the hair of the player character was gorgeous. It was cutting right through their helmet. It was still flowing and bounced as they moved. Finally, there was no more stiff hair. Let’s just hope that we have more than two styles of black hair.
- The enemies were essentially just darkspawn variations, with the exception of the dragon. However, they did appear to have Red Lyrium powers.”
