The latest macOS Ventura 13.2 update has undergone rigorous testing, yet some bugs and glitches have slipped through the cracks. While some of the problems are exclusive to macOS Ventura 13.2, others have carried over from the older versions of the OS.
The common problems are outlined below.
Universal Control is not Working
Universal Control is one of the unique features of macOS Ventura. It allows users to control multiple Apple devices, including MacBook, iPad, and iMac. With this feature enabled, users can work with a single keyboard and mouse and move between Mac and iPad. In addition, you can quickly drag and drop items across Apple devices. There’s no additional setup required.
Suppose you encounter the Universal Control not working problem. In that case, it might be because your devices aren’t compatible with Universal Control, you are not using the same Apple ID on your devices, the devices have a software bug, or your iPad and Mac are too far away from each other.
This problem can be fixed by connecting your Mac and iPad to the same Wi-Fi, switching on Bluetooth, and turning on Handoff on both devices.
Airdrop is not Working
When AirDrop works without a glitch, it is a wonderful feature. Unfortunately, when it stops working, it can be pretty frustrating.
Sometimes, a macOS update may lead to AirDrop issues. The best solution is to launch the Control Center > toggle AirDrop off and on again. Also, try switching between Contact Only and Everyone.
If this fails, force quit Finder and relaunch it. Click the Apple menu > choose Force Quit > select Finder from the list > hit the Relaunch button. You may lose unsaved data, so be careful to save all the open documents before force quitting Finder.
You can also restart your system and see if the problem is solved.
Excessive Battery Drain
Whenever an operating system gets updated, different processes work in the background for at least several hours. Sometimes, these processes may take days to finish indexing and updating files. So if your system feels sluggish and slow right after updating to macOS Ventura or installing the latest Ventura update, let your system complete the background tasks.
Once the files are indexed and updated, your device will start functioning as usual.
If this does not happen and there’s excessive battery drain, you can switch to Low Power mode to reduce power strain.
Also, you can head to the Activity Monitor and pause or stop all unnecessary processes and programs. Alternatively, you can reboot your device or reset the SMC.
Quick Look is not Functioning
After updating to Ventura, Quick Look is a feature that may give you trouble.
Quick Look is a handy preview picture of the current file appearing when you tap the spacebar. The preview will close if you press the spacebar again. The option works in the Finder and saves you time and effort. The feature also works in file browser windows inside other applications.
Once the feature stops working, you will realize how fantastic it is. Luckily, you can solve the problem by force quitting Finder and then relaunching it. Either force quit by clicking the Apple menu > force quit > Finder, or you can press Command + Option + Escape to bring up the force quit menu.
Rebooting your system can also solve this problem, giving your computer a fresh start.
Touch ID is not Working
If the Touch ID is not functioning or the fingerprint unlock is unresponsive, you can try the following fixes:
- Restart your Mac by clicking the Apple logo > Restart. Please note this is a temporary fix. Also, the Touch ID will not work right after the reboot. You must sign in with your account password.
- Restart the keyboard if you are using the Apple Magic Keyboard.
- Reconfigure fingerprint by going to System Settings > click Touch ID & Password > Add Fingerprint.
Wi-Fi & Internet Problems
Updating to macOS Ventura may lead to Wi-Fi and other Internet connectivity issues. If you are experiencing the same, here are some quick fixes:
- Remove or disable third party firewall or network filtering tools by going to the Apple menu > System Settings > Network > VPN & Filters > changing the status under Filters & Proxies to disabled or removing content filters by clicking the minus icon.
- Remove the current Wi-Fi preferences and then reconnect. Go to the Control Center and turn off Wi-Fi. Then, open Finder > click the Go menu > select Go to Folder > enter /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ > press enter > select the files NetworkInterfaces.plist, com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist, preferences.plist, com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist and com.apple.airport.preferences.plist > drag the files to the desktop to serve as backup > restart your system. Then, toggle the Wi-Fi back on and join the network of your choice.
- Boot Mac into Safe mode.
Final Thoughts
macOS Ventura is a ground-breaking update, but some glitches have managed to slither through the cracks. However, they can be solved quickly. So update your system and keep in mind the problems & their fixes mentioned above.
