The Unfolding of a Tragedy: The Murder of Skylar Neese

Shelia Eddy and Rachel Shoaf were accused of perpetrating a horrific crime during the summer of 2012. They were responsible for murdering Skylar Neese, 16-years old at the time. Eddy reached an agreement with prosecutors, admitting her role in Skylar’s death and is serving her sentence at Lakin Correctional Center in Mason County, West Virginia. Rachel Shoaf, who plead guilty to second-degree murder charges is also currently imprisoned at this same facility.

Shelia Eddy’s Parents and Their Response to the Crime

Following the revelations about Shelia’s involvement in the murder, her mother Tara Clendenen filed a motion in Monongalia County Circuit Court, asserting her innocence and claiming no responsibility for her daughter’s actions.

In 2014, Mary Neese, the victim’s mother, took legal action against Rachel Shoaf, Shelia, Patricia Shoaf (Rachel’s mother), Tara, and others. Tara Clendenen responded that she could not be held responsible for Eddy’s murderous act because she wasn’t in control of her that evening; further, Mary Neese had publicly stated on social media that she did not hold Eddy’s parents responsible.
