A sudden and unexpected death has occurred for the former American swimmer Jamie Cail is under investigation by officials in the U.S. Virgin Islands, authorities told the media.
She was 42 years old. Cail was found dead at the home she shared with her partner at St. John, the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department stated in an announcement.
“This investigation is currently being investigated through police from the Criminal Investigation Bureau,” according to the police report.
The boyfriend of Cail’s, whose identity was not disclosed by police informed investigators that he went to at a bar, and returned to their house to examine Cail shortly after 12 midnight, as per police.
“Upon arriving, the officer found his partner lying on the floor,” police said.
The man and his friend the couple took Cail in a car that was owned by a private company to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic. There, attempts to save her did not succeed, as police stated.
The police were notified of the death at 2.39 a.m. Tuesday morning, officials confirmed.
The details of Cail’s passing was revealed by police. They urged anyone with information to call authorities at Criminal Investigation Bureau.
Cail was born in Claremont, New Hampshire, and was a star athlete during her early years the family of her mother told ABC the affiliate station WMUR in Manchester.
She was also part of the women’s University of Maine’s swimming team during the academic year 2000-2001 according to the alumni association of the school.
When she was a teenager, Cail was a member of a relay team which was awarded a gold medal in the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships, according to SwimSwam.com which is a swimming online news website.
“She was just who she was a beautiful woman,” a friend told WMUR. “She was a very generous person. She was truly affectionate and sweet and loved and well-known throughout the island. Everyone knew her.”
