Taylor Hawkins’ widow has openly spoken out about her husband’s death. Foo Fighters drummer’s death, nearly two months after his passing in his sleep.
Hawkins passed away on March 25, at the age 50 after being discovered unresponsive within his hotel in Bogota, Colombia. A preliminary toxicology test of his urine discovered 10 different drugs inside his system.
Alison Hawkins, who married the musician in 2005, has posted an announcement on her former husband’s Twitter account and it was revealed that his bandmates have planned two tribute shows for September.
“My deepest thanks and admiration go out to the global Foo Fighters community and Taylor’s fans far and wide for the outpouring of love each and every one of you have shown out beloved Taylor,” the statement said. “Your kindness has been an invaluable comfort for my family and me during this time of unimaginable grief.”
“As Taylor’s wife, and on behalf of our children, I want to share how much you meant to him and how dedicated he was to ‘knocking your socks off’ during every performance,” Alison Hawkins, who was the mother of three children to her husband who died, continued. “Taylor was honored to be a part of the Foo Fighters and valued his dream role in the band every minute of his 25 years with them. We consider every band member and the extended Foo Fighters team our family.”
“Taylor’s endearing spirit and deep love of music will live on forever through the collaborations he so enjoyed having with other musicians and the catalog of songs he contributed to and created,” she wrote. “In celebration of his life, it is now up to all of us who loved him most to honor Taylor’s legacy and the music he gave us.”
The message ended with a reiteration of her gratitude for her husband’s fans and the “love and sympathy” of the fans of her husband, adding: “Taylor loved all of you & we love you too.”
The tweet that preceded it on Taylor Hawkins’ account revealed that plans are underway to host two show tributes on the 3rd of September in the London’s Wembley Stadium and on September 27 at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. The lineups for the shows will be revealed at a later time.
The announcement was also posted via The authentic Foo Fighters Twitter account with the text which reads: “For our dear friend, our badass bandmate, our beloved brother…Foo Fighters and The Hawkins family bring you the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts.”
On the official website of the band there was a statement that said Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear along with Rami Jaffee “will come together with the Hawkins family to celebrate the life, music and love of their husband, father, brother and bandmate with The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts.”
In the wake of Taylor Hawkins’ death, Hawkins’ bandmates cancelled their scheduled concert at the 2022 Grammy Awards. The group also cancelled all of their scheduled tour dates.
The band announced their cancellation in March declaring that it was due to Taylor Hawkins “staggering loss of Taylor Hawkins,” and added: “Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”
The majority of concerts had sold out and could take the band all over the globe, with concerts being scheduled in the U.S., U.K., Italy, Australia, and France.
In the wake of news of his passing in the late March, the world of music was in mourning and paid tribute for his Foo Fighters drummer. While the world mourned Hawkins and his music, the video of Hawkins’s meeting with a star-struck fan days prior to his death was viewed by millions of people.
Although he is best known for his time an original member of Foo Fighters but he was also a part of Alanis Morissette and Coheed and Cambria. He also led his own group, Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders.
